Pilates Education at Studio MThe Pilates Education at Studio M is a comprehensive, assessment based training program using the exercises originally developed by Joseph Pilates and the current uses of Mr. Pilates apparatus for adapting to a variety of populations you will come across. Our program is for people interested in learning an integrative approach to physical conditioning and corrective therapeutic exercise. Our training prepares you for the PMA Certification Examination and is approved by the PMA. The comprehensive training is a 500 hour learning process including 140 hours in course work, 100 hours of supervised practice teaching, and an additional 260 hours of practice, observations and teaching. We are committed to providing the best learning experience in the industry. Our goal is to provide you with a program that develops excellent teaching skills, confidence, and marketability for employment upon your completion.
We have updated and enhanced our Pilates education program to provide a higher level of learning for people who wish to become the very best Pilates teachers. Studio M teachers have achieved the reputation of offering the highest quality in Pilates training and success in working with clients to achieve their goals of healthy and stronger bodies. Whether the client is a sport enthusiast, has an injury or a fitness mind, Studio M teachers have the skill-set to work with a wide range of clients. These skills come from a commitment to education and continuous learning. Madeline Black and her team of teachers offer an in-depth learning program including the full repertoire of Pilates exercises; deep understanding of how the body moves through biomechanics and anatomy; and skills in cueing through touch and words.
We offer two Pilates Teacher Training programs: Comprehensive Mat Training and Comprehensive (Mat and Apparatus) Training. Each Teacher Training Program has its own prerequisites, required courses and final exam. Certificates of completion are awarded when all requirements are met.
All the classes we offer can be taken as individual workshops.
Comprehensive Mat Training
The Mat Training program is a 96 hour program that includes Essential Exercises and Mat intensives plus 50 hours of practice and observations. This in-depth training focuses on teaching the student to embody, learn, and apply the Pilates principles with the anatomical intelligence, movement techniques for better results and specific cueing both verbal and tactile.

Final Exam: |
You must take a written and practical exam within two weeks after you complete the Integrated Mat Intensive. The exam is 3 hours long. |

Comprehensive (Mat and Apparatus) Training
The Comprehensive Training program includes the mat training as described; an apparatus pre-training; Apparatus intensives and a special Teaching Techniques course. Studio M’s in-depth training focuses on teaching the student to embody, learn, and apply the Pilates principles with an eye for creating optimal movement patterns and postural re-education. The goal is to provide you with the skills to facilitate the client’s achievement of balanced strength and flexibility while improving dynamic alignment and movement potential.
Schedule
Courses are primarily scheduled on weekends with an addition of a Friday class for the Comprehensive Pre-Training. The time between courses will be used for observation, self practice and student teaching. An additional 7-10 hours per week is necessary to integrate the material and complete the required hours prior to the assessment-based certificate.
The Comprehensive Training Program including workshops supervised teaching time and studio hours (observation, practice and student teaching). All course work and required hours must be completed during the time period scheduled and prior to scheduled exam. After you have met all the requirements and passed the final examination, a certificate of completion will be awarded. The Studio M Comprehensive Training prepares you to successfully pass the PMA, Pilates Method Alliance national certification exam.

Required: a minimum of 10 private sessions on the equipment prior to training. Enrollment in the Apparatus Pre-Training course. Must provide a letter of recommendation from a certified Pilates instructor or movement teacher. Recommended a minimum of 30 hours of personal practice in Pilates. Recommended a minimum of 2 years experience in movement, dance, yoga, etc. Studio M Pilates assessment-based certificate is highly recommended. |
